Jalandhar, February 18
Former Education Minister and MLA Pargat Singh has denounced the cold-blooded assassination of yet another Aam Aadmi Party sarpanch at a wedding ceremony in Tarn Taran as a resounding slap on the face of the Punjab government and its police administration. Bullets rain incessantly, murders proliferate unabated—what infernal chaos grips Punjab? Where has the machinery of law and order so abjectly evaporated?
Pargat said that gangsters and assassins operate with brazen impunity, while the government and police posture as mute spectators to this orgy of violence, while adding that conditions have spiraled into utter anarchy: not even weddings, celebrations or homes offer sanctuary anymore. Pargat questioned the DGP that when will this carnage cease and when will Punjab’s people receive the justice they so desperately deserve?
Pargat said that instead of upholding law and order, Punjab’s DGP fritters away time delivering partisan orations at political rallies, even as gangsters systematically target elected representatives with lethal precision. “The government’s much-vaunted Operation Prahaar against gangsters appears confined to hollow paperwork and performative social media theatrics”, he added.
“The regime boasts of 2,000 police teams comprising 12,000 personnel battling gangsters, yet the slaughter persists relentlessly. In Sangrur—the Chief Minister’s own bastion—a young man was gunned down inside his home. Where is this vaunted police force? If divine providence alone safeguards us, so be it”, asserted Pargat.
Pargat said that the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has proven an abysmal failure as Home Minister too. “The Punjab government must pivot urgently to substantive measures ensuring public safety, forsaking sloganeering and poster campaigns for decisive action—so the people of Punjab may once again feel secure”, he demanded.
