Former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab and Member of Parliament Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa took strong objection to the alleged ‘Mr. Singh’ posters issued by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), terming it a highly objectionable act that racially profiles the Sikh community and targets their religious identity. He stated that portraying the Sikh community—renowned worldwide for its hard work, honesty, and bravery—under a cloud of suspicion is completely unacceptable. The Sikh community has spread the message of human service, peace, and brotherhood across the globe, and any attempt to link their identity to prejudice will be fiercely opposed.
Randhawa noted that this issue comes at a time when anti-Sikh hate crimes in the US are already a matter of deep concern.
Citing available data, he highlighted that anti-Sikh hate crime incidents rose to 177 in 2025 compared to 142 in 2024, signaling a grave increase in intolerance. In such an environment, posters of this nature further heighten the anxieties of the Sikh community.
He remarked that the Modi-led Central Government cannot limit itself to merely taking credit for the achievements of the Indian diaspora. When the dignity and honor of Indians—especially the Sikh community—are challenged abroad, it becomes the government’s duty to stand firmly with them. He demanded that Prime Minister Modi respond immediately.
Randhawa urged External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar to promptly take up the matter with the US administration and ensure concrete steps are taken to safeguard the religious identity and dignity of the Sikh community. He added that singling out a specific community’s identity as a symbol of suspicion under the guise of national security goes against democratic values and the spirit of human rights.
