Chandigarh, March 21

Sirsa MP, former Union Minister, and All India Congress Committee General Secretary Kumari Selja has expressed deep concern over the rapidly increasing cases of heart attacks among youth in Haryana. She said that the death of 17,973 people due to heart attacks in the state from 2020 to January 2026 is a very serious and alarming situation. Particularly, the fact that most deaths occurred among youth aged 18 to 45 is a warning for both society and the government.

Selja said that this is not just a common health problem but an emerging public health crisis that requires immediate attention. She alleged that despite the rising cases, the state government has neither presented any concrete study on the issue nor formulated a clear policy or action plan, which has increased confusion and concern among the people. She emphasized that it is extremely necessary to know the reasons behind the sudden rise in heart attacks among youth. People also have many questions regarding COVID-19 infection and subsequent vaccination, but the government has so far failed to provide any clear and scientific explanation.

Selja said that the government must show transparency on this matter and conduct a detailed, impartial, and scientific investigation, making its report public so that the truth can come out and people’s doubts can be cleared. She further said that there is an urgent need to run large-scale awareness campaigns for the prevention of heart diseases, strengthen cardiac testing facilities at the district level, and improve emergency medical services. She stressed that the public has the full right to know about their health and safety, and it is the government’s responsibility to be accountable on this serious issue.

Selja warned that if this matter is not taken seriously, the situation could become even more dreadful in the future. The government must take immediate concrete steps and work with complete transparency to maintain the trust of the people.
