DMC&H launches ‘Access to Primary Health Care’ – a Mobile Unit Project

Ludhiana, May 21 

Dayanand Medical College and Hospital Managing Society, Ludhiana, launched a mobile community primary healthcare project aimed at delivering essential primary and preventive healthcare services to disadvantaged populations across 40 villages in and around Ludhiana district Under the supervision of department of community medicine and General medicine of DMC&H. This initiative is being implemented under the CSR initiative of Siemens Healthineers, India.

Under this Access to Primary Health Care initiative, a total population of approximately 50,000 across these villages will be benefitted. The target village population face a significant burden of health challenges, including non-communicable diseases such as hypertension and diabetes, respiratory conditions, seasonal diseases and cancers. The services under this project will be delivered through a dedicated Mobile Medical Van staffed with a qualified doctor, nursing & supporting staff experienced in serving rural communities, supported by specialists and diagnostic services based at the hospital.

The project was formally inaugurated today at the hospital premises by the Chief Guest,  Amrit Nagpal, Member DMC&H Managing Society along with Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society; Mukesh Verma, Treasurer, DMC&H Managing Society; Dr. G. S. Wander, Principal; Dr. Sandeep Kaushal, Dean Academics; Dr. Sandeep Sharma and Dr. Ashwani K. Chaudhary, Medical Superintendents; Dr. Anurag Chaudhary, Professor and Head, Department of Community Medicine; Dr. Rajesh Mahajan, Professor and Head, Department of General Medicine. Shwetanjali Kumari, CSR Head; Surjeet Singh, Project Management Regional Head; Mr. Raman Kumar, DGM Sales; and Kulwinder Singh, Group Leader, Customer Support, from Siemens Healthineers joined the launch. The inauguration will be followed by a multi-disciplinary mega health camp at village Lehra, one of the locations covered under the project.

With CSR support of Siemens Healthineers, mobile health clinics will be conducted regularly at the identified villages catering to the village population. In addition, specialized medical sessions will also be organized to provide focused consultation by specialist doctors. Patients requiring advanced care will be linked to government healthcare schemes, ensuring a seamless continuum of care. Key services will include general health consultations, diagnosis, prescribing treatment, and provision of essential medications. With specialist support, the initiative will also focus on screening and management of chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. Additional interventions will include eye screening for cataracts along with surgical referrals where required and awareness programs for breast and cervical cancers.

A strong emphasis will also be placed on community health education, promoting preventive health practices and building awareness in a culturally appropriate and accessible manner.
