Mandi, June 5
In a statement issued from Mandi, former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur said that the frustration of defeat is clearly visible on the Chief Minister’s face and in his remarks. That is why he is insulting the public mandate and democracy, tearing apart the Constitution. Making derogatory and petty comments about elected representatives chosen by thousands of people reflects the Chief Minister’s mindset. In democracy, the people are supreme, and making baseless remarks about their chosen representatives shows his lack of commitment to constitutional values. The Chief Minister’s statement is utterly shameful, and he must apologize to the people of the state and to the representatives for it.
Thakur said that ever since taking office, the Chief Minister has faced one corruption allegation after another. “Questions are regularly raised about the officials working with him. The loot and chaos spread by his circle of friends has troubled the entire state. Yet, instead of responding to corruption charges, the Chief Minister only displays shamelessness. In the Chester Hill case of more than ₹1,500 crore, the way he gave statements to shield senior officials was disgraceful and exposed his mindset of supporting corruption,” he said.
Thakur further said that the accusations made against the Chief Minister by a senior leader of his own party are shameful. “Such allegations against a Chief Minister are unimaginable. Even then, he is avoiding giving answers and whatever he says only shows his helplessness. His silence on such a massive corruption case is enough to make the entire matter look suspicious. Simply dismissing such a big issue as “spice” will not work,” he added.
Thakur dared the Chief Minister to answer these charges, while adding, “Dodging every question, blaming the opposition, and painting corruption allegations as political will not work every time. The state deserves answers and the truth about the suitcases must be revealed. By lying and misleading people, the Chief Minister cannot hide his government’s corruption for long. Now people have started speaking up and coming forward. Layers of corruption are being exposed. The government must respond to every allegation. Calling such serious charges “spice” will not suppress the reality of the suitcases.”
