Ludhiana, July 11
BJP Assembly North in‑charge Parveen Bansal has ripped into the current MLA–Mayor duo, accusing them of paralyzing Ludhiana’s growth. He charged that their negligence has brought ₹2,000 crore worth of development projects to a grinding halt. The High Court’s intervention has now frozen these works, exposing the city to a standstill born of political incompetence and civic indifference.”
Bansal said that ever since the Municipal Corporation was formed, it has remained ‘eclipsed’ by wrong policies. He alleged that except one senior deputy mayor, even four‑time experienced councilors were sidelined. “To tighten his grip, the MLA deliberately handed Ludhiana over to inexperienced councilors. As a result, the city once known as the ‘Manchester of India’ has lost its respect today,” he added.
Bansal exposed a blatant violation of the Municipal Corporation Act, 1976, which mandates that two members of the Finance Committee be elected by the entire House, with one traditionally from the opposition. He alleged that the MLA trampled these rules and brazenly installed his own sons as committee members. This, he said, is not just a breach of law but a naked display of nepotism that has dragged Ludhiana’s governance into disrepute.
Bansal thundered that the MLA has turned democracy into a family fiefdom — one son installed as legal advisor, the other planted in the Finance Committee. He called it a ‘big joke with democracy,’ saying those who flaunt Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar’s portrait are now mocking his Constitution. ‘I had heard of a black grain in pulses,’ he quipped, ‘but here the entire pulses have turned black. The tall claims of honesty have collapsed into hypocrisy.
In conclusion, Bansal declared that the Municipal Corporation has ceased to be a civic institution and has degenerated into a ‘den of corruption.’ He warned that unless the people rise and raise their voice, Ludhiana will remain hostage to this rot. For a city to thrive and for society to stand tall, he said, it needs honest, capable representatives — not those who trade public trust for personal gain.
