Governor participates in ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ Walkathon at Sukhna Lake

The Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Gulab Chand Kataria today participated in a ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ walkathon at Sukhna Lake, dedicated to the spirit of ‘Vande Mataram’ and to honouring the courage and sacrifices of India’s freedom fighters. He was accompanied by Chief Secretary Shri H. Rajesh Prasad, Home Secretary Shri Mandip Singh Brar and Tourism-cum-Culture Secretary Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah.

The Administrator said that the walkathon carried a message of patriotism, national unity, social harmony, healthy living and active citizenship. He said the nationwide ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, an initiative of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, being observed from August 9 to 17, encourages citizens to honour the freedom fighters and bring the spirit of the Tricolour into every home.

Kataria urged citizens, particularly the youth, to respect the National Flag and remember the sacrifices of freedom fighters, while adopting healthy lifestyles and staying away from drugs and other social evils. He also called upon them to contribute towards national unity, constitutional values, environmental protection and social harmony. He appreciated all departments, organisations, institutions, youth and citizens for their active participation and support in making the walkathon a success.

During the event citizens are encouraged to participate in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign by displaying the Tricolour at their homes, workplaces and institutions, taking selfies with the National Flag, uploading them on the Har Ghar Tiranga portal to generate a digital certificate, and sharing their participation on social media using #HarGharTiranga and #HGT2026. The Administrator also administered a ‘Nasha Mukt’ pledge, with participants resolving to stay away from drugs and contribute towards building a healthy, drug-free society.

Also present during the event were senior officials of Chandigarh Administration, students, citizens of Chandigarh, along with Volunteer organizations.
