Chandigarh, September 13
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today announced constituency level protests would be held across the State on September 16 to protest against prolonged power cuts in Punjab which were adversely affecting both farmers and citizens alike.
Asserting that Punjab was in the grip of a full blown power crisis, Sukhbir Badal said power cuts running up to ten hours every day had made life unbearable for ordinary families, while commercial establishments and industry were suffering major disruptions and losses.
Stating that this was not merely a power shortage but a case of governance failure, Badal said “the AAP government and chief minister Bhagwant Mann owe an explanation to Punjabis as to why fool proof arrangements were not made to ensure uninterrupted power in the State”. He urged every Punjabi to raise their voice and join these protests. “The government must take required steps to restore power and stop making excuses to cover its failure on this front”, he added.
