Kharar, October 26

Vineet Joshi, State Media Head of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Punjab, and Chief Sewadar of the Kharar Assembly constituency, has expressed serious concern over unplanned construction, alleged illegal plotting, and the activities of the land mafia in Kharar. He questioned the functioning of the Punjab government and the local administration while speaking to journalists after visiting several colonies in the city.

Joshi said that several builders, allegedly in collusion with officials of the Kharar Municipal Council, had violated prescribed regulations for colony development and undertaken construction on a large scale. These colonies lack proper road infrastructure, adequate drinking water supplies, and reliable electricity facilities. As a result, residents who have invested their lifetime savings in purchasing homes in these areas are facing considerable hardship due to the lack of basic amenities.

Joshi alleged that some private builders, in collusion with government officials and employees, were operating like a mafia. Such activities not only violate the law but also jeopardise the safety and well-being of ordinary citizens. He further warned that unplanned construction poses serious challenges to Kharar’s geographical landscape, the environment, and the provision of essential infrastructure in the future.

Joshi demanded an impartial, high-level inquiry by the relevant departments, an immediate halt to illegal construction and plotting, and strict legal action against builders and land mafia operators found guilty of violations. He also called for accountability to be fixed if any government official is found to be involved in such activities.
