Chandigarh, December 11

The Border Security Force (BSF) today solemnly commemorated Raja Mohatam Day, honouring the extraordinary courage and supreme sacrifice of Maha Vir Chakra awardee Assistant Commandant Shri R.K. Wadhwa and his brave comrades, who displayed unparalleled valour during the 1971 Indo-Pak War.

Wadhwa led a small but determined BSF team in a daring night assault on 6/7 December 1971 to recapture the strategically crucial Raja Mohatam Post in the Ferozepur sector of Punjab. After an intense and fierce confrontation with Pakistan Army troops, the post was heroically reclaimed. In this historic battle, Wadhwa exhibited exceptional leadership and made the supreme sacrifice, becoming the only Paramilitary officer ever awarded the prestigious Maha Vir Chakra. His comrades were also honoured with Gallantry distinctions for their heroic actions.

On 11 December 2025, Inspector General BSF Punjab Frontier Dr. Atul Fulzele, IPS paid heartfelt tribute at the Raja Mohatam memorial, honouring the families of the martyrs and acknowledging the steadfast support of border communities in strengthening national security. In tribute to its heroic legacy, BSF Punjab has produced an inspiring short film, “Raja Mohatam: The Untold Saga of BSF Bravery”, aimed at motivating future generations. The film has earned national and international acclaim at various film festivals. Raja Mohatam Day remains a proud symbol of unparalleled bravery, sacrifice and devotion to duty—an eternal inspiration for the Nation.
