Ludhiana, October 2

Under the headship of former Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) general secretary and former Chairman of Punjab Large Industrial Development Board, Pawan Dewan Congress observed the 157th birth anniversary of the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi at Sarabha Nagar, Ludhiana. With reverence and respect, party workers offered floral tributes before the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi.

Addressing the gathering, Dewan said that at present, both the nation and Punjab need freedom from the curse of drugs. He remarked that just as bullets of the British regime targeted Indians during the freedom struggle, today drug pills and the drug menace are swallowing the lives of innocent youth. He said that Mahatma Gandhi led the freedom struggle through truth, non-violence and unity of the people. “Similarly, to free Punjab from the scourge of drugs, not only the government but every section of society and common people must unite and become part of this mission,” asserted Dewan.

Dewan appealed to the people to play their role in saving the younger generation from drugs and making Punjab drug-free. While recalling Mahatma Gandhi’s message of simplicity, swadeshi and self-reliance, the party workers presented a spinning wheel (charkha) to Dewan.
