Chandigarh, December 11
Punjab Congress president and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today said that there was an atmosphere of fear prevailing in Punjab and nobody felt safe as the gangsters were ruling the roost. Speaking during the Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha today, Warring raised the issue of deteriorating law and order in the state. He revealed how the gangsters were threatening everyone they wanted and intimidating them to pay ransom.
The Ludhiana MP disclosed that people were receiving threatening calls from the jails and foreign countries. He said the state government had completely failed to provide safety and security to people in the state. Warring also said that the gangsters had gotten so much deep into the political system that the Shiromani Akai Dal fielded a candidate closely related to a gangster in Tarn Taran assembly by-election.
Seeking the union Home Ministry’s intervention, he said, one of the most wanted gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi was being provided protection by the Gujarat government. He referred to the special orders of the Gujarat government that provide immunity to Bishnoi from being taken by the police from other states where he is involved in serious crimes.
Warring alleged that both the central and the state governments had failed to secure the life and property of people who were living in a constant and continuous shadow of threat and intimidation. The Ludhiana MP said that not just the common people, even the political leaders and senior officers have started receiving ransom calls from the gangsters.
