Shimla, May 19

Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur today launched a sharp attack on the Congress, alleging that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is misleading the public with fabricated numbers. He said that after the BJP’s sweeping victory in the local body elections, the farewell bells for this government have already rung. According to him, rural voters now feel deceived by the unfulfilled promises of the Congress and are fully prepared to teach the government a tough lesson in the elections.

Thakur accused Sukhu of misleading people with exaggerated claims of victory in the local body polls to prevent Congress from losing ground in the Panchayat elections. He said the CM, who has already misled people with false guarantees and schemes, is now lying about election results. “The BJP’s massive win in the local body elections has already sounded the farewell bugle for this Congress government, but the Chief Minister lacks the courage to hear it,” he remarked. Thakur added that rural voters, like those in urban areas, feel betrayed by Congress’s unfulfilled promises and are ready to punish the government at the ballot box.

During his visit to Saraj, Thakur addressed meetings in Shankardehra (Zila Parishad Bryogi ward) and Jarol (Zila Parishad Road ward) in support of BJP-backed candidates. He discussed organizational strength, upcoming electoral strategy, and outreach campaigns. Witnessing the enthusiasm of workers and public support, he expressed confidence that BJP-backed candidates would secure a historic victory in all four wards of Saraj constituency.

Thakur accused Sukhu and Congress leaders of inflating their victory numbers on social media and in the press to avoid admitting defeat. He questioned how Congress could claim victory when it had not even fielded official candidates in the local body elections. In contrast, BJP had released an authorized list of strong candidates, over 60% of whom won, reflecting public anger against the ruling government. He predicted Congress would face a crushing defeat in upcoming municipal, district council, and Panchayat elections, as no section of society has been spared from the government’s anti-people policies and poor decisions.

He further alleged that the Sukhu government has neither funds nor intent left for development. “After three and a half years in office, the government cannot even show what it has achieved on the ground. Instead, the CM is serving false and fabricated figures to please the Congress high command in Delhi,” Thakur said. He claimed that even in the home constituencies of Congress ministers, BJP-backed candidates had won by huge margins, but the CM refuses to accept defeat, clinging to denial like West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.

Thakur asserted that the political ground has slipped entirely from under Sukhu’s feet. Following the results of five states and now Himachal’s local body polls, he said it is clear that the people are eager to uproot this “false government.” He accused the CM of avoiding direct contact with the public, relying instead on social media propaganda. According to him, the people now understand that this government cannot deliver governance or development. He added that Himachal’s citizens want to move forward with the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s central government to secure funds for development. However, he alleged that Sukhu’s government is misusing central funds, diverting them to select Congress MLAs and friends’ constituencies for electoral gain. He concluded that rural voters, like urban ones, feel cheated by Congress’s unfulfilled guarantees and are ready to deliver a harsh verdict in the upcoming elections.
