Guru Har Sahai, Ferozepur, January 12
A huge MGNREGA Bachao Rally was held today at Guru Har Sahai, where senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition, Punjab, Partap Singh Bajwa addressed a massive gathering of labourers, farmers, women, and party workers, sending out a clear political message against the BJP-led Union government and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab.
Addressing the rally, Bajwa said the Bharatiya Janata Party at the Centre has launched a series of attacks on the pillars of the nation. He stated that jawans were undermined through the Agniveer scheme, which weakened job security for youth aspiring to serve the armed forces, while kisans were pushed into uncertainty through the three controversial farm laws. The black laws were revoked after a year long struggle and sacrifice of more than 700 farmers.
Bajwa warned that the latest moves of the Modi government are aimed at destroying MGNREGA, thereby targeting poor labourers and daily-wage workers. He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of systematically dismantling welfare frameworks that support rural India. Bajwa underlined that MGNREGA was the result of the clear vision of Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh, who ensured that rural households received a legal guarantee of employment. “The Indian National Congress conceived, implemented, and protected MGNREGA, and Congress will ensure that this lifeline for the rural poor is kept alive and strengthened once Congress forms in 207,”he asserted.
Turning to Punjab, Bajwa said the people of the state have completely lost faith in the Aam Aadmi Party government. He accused Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of presiding over corruption and administrative failure, and announced that once Congress forms the next government in Punjab, a statutory commission will be constituted to inquire into the corruption carried out under the Mann regime. “Mann will be held accountable, and those who misused public money will face consequences,” he said.
Bajwa also highlighted AAP’s failure to deliver on its promise of ₹1,000 per month to women, calling it a betrayal of trust. Raising concerns over law and order, he said Punjab today is plagued by fear, with citizens receiving extortion calls from gangsters. “Once Congress forms the next government, gangsterism will cease to exist in Punjab. No citizen will live in fear,” he declared. Bajwa concluded by stating that the entire Congress is united and prepared to restore welfare, security, and dignity to Punjab.
