Chandigarh, June 19
Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia today said he had attempted to find out the whereabouts of Joban Singh, an Akali supporter, who was picked up by the police in a false case, following an apprehension by the latter’s mother that he would be eliminated in a false encounter.
Addressing the media here, Bikram Majithia said a false case alleging he had torn official papers and brandished a pistol, was registered against him because he had exposed the AAP government plot by recovering Joban from the residence of Station House Officer.
Asserting that his only intention of going to the police station was to protect the human rights of the Akali, Majithia said the very fact that the courts had ruled Joban’s arrest as illegal and passed strict structures against DSP Kamalpreet Singh had proved that he had gone to the police station in good faith.
Majithia also presented several videos of the incident including the manner in which police officers stonewalled inquires by Joban’s next of kin and even assured that he would not be implicated in any more false case. “Despite these assurances after registering a case of a chain theft against Joban and 14 others by name besides several unnamed persons, the police went on to register a case of having recovered illegal weapons from Joban. “The affected family believed this was a prelude to eliminating him in a false case and this was the reason that we reached the police station to recover him from illegal custody”, he added.
Majithia also disclosed how the police failed to present any evidence of any CCTV coverage of any of the allegations levelled against him or other Akali workers.Later when questioned, Mr Majithia pointed out to how the former wife of chief minister Bhagwant Mann had pointed out to the possibility of an audio recording also which was sacrilegious in nature. “This shows that Bhagwant Mann is not only habitual of consuming alcohol but also of committing such acts against the honour of the Guru Sahiban”. He also noted that the chief minister had done a drama of respecting Sri Akal Takht Sahib when summoned at the Takht Secretariat five months back. “His true colours have been revealed now when he has been found guilty of religious sacrilege. Now he is challenging the authority of the supreme religious and temporal seat of the Sikhs. I only want to tell him that history had taught us that all those who have done this have bit the dust”, Majithia added.
