Punjab’s controversial CLU approvals are fast turning into a storm that threatens to engulf both bureaucracy and politics. The Enforcement Directorate’s summons to GMADA Chief Administrator IAS Sandeep Kumar in the Suntec City and Altus Space Builders case signals that central agencies are now probing deeper into the alleged land use approval network. Senior officers including Chief Secretary Kumar Anugrah Prasad Sinha (KAP Sinha), PSPCL CMD Basant Garg, IAS Sandeep Kumar and Pankaj Bawa are under intensifying scrutiny amid allegations that rules were reshaped and official systems manipulated to benefit select private players. What was once projected as routine clearances is now emerging as a much larger story of alleged bureaucratic shielding, policy bending and high-level patronage.
The political backdrop makes this even more explosive. The arrest of Punjab Industries and Power Minister Sanjeev Arora by the Enforcement Directorate in a ₹100‑crore money laundering case has already rattled the state’s corridors of power. Opposition leaders argue that the ED action exposes a deep nexus between political power centres, bureaucracy and favoured builders. The silence of the Congress on Arora’s arrest, coupled with BJP and Akali Dal’s sharp attacks, has highlighted the balancing act of political convenience.
As investigators trace the chain of decisions and approvals, the Bhagwant Mann–Arvind Kejriwal setup in Punjab may face sharper questions over accountability. The alleged nexus between power centres, bureaucrats and builders now appears to be slowly unraveling, with the CLU controversy dovetailing into the larger narrative of corruption and patronage. Punjab deserves transparency, accountability and an impartial probe — anything less will only deepen public mistrust in governance.
