Chandigarh, March 20
The recent unseasonal rainfall in Haryana has devastated farmers’ hard-earned crops. A large number of crops across the state have either been destroyed or are on the verge of destruction. Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee President Rao Narendra Singh visited the affected areas, particularly Narnaul and various villages of South Haryana, where he assessed the condition of crops and listened seriously to the concerns of farmers.
Singh stated that the untimely rains caused by a western disturbance have inflicted heavy damage on Rabi crops. Standing wheat and mustard crops have been badly flattened in the fields, pushing farmers into a deep financial crisis. He said that for farmers already burdened by rising input costs and inflation, this natural calamity is nothing short of a disaster.
Singh further said that farmers in Haryana are currently facing a double blow—on one hand, the rising cost of cultivation, and on the other, the impact of natural disasters. In such a situation, it becomes the responsibility of the government to take immediate cognizance and initiate relief measures without delay.
Singh demanded that the Haryana government should promptly conduct crop damage assessment (girdawari) in all affected areas across the state and ensure that farmers receive fair and adequate compensation without any delay. He also urged the administration to carry out transparent ground-level surveys so that relief reaches the genuinely affected farmers.
Singh added that the Congress party has always stood firmly for the rights and welfare of farmers and will continue to strongly raise their voice in the future. Justice must be ensured for farmers, and their hard work must be duly respected.
