People distressed by taxes & inflation: BJP

Shimla, April 11

BJP State President Dr. Rajeev Bindal described the statements of the Congress government and its leaders as laughable and misleading, saying that the situation surrounding Panchayati Raj and municipal elections is deeply worrying for democracy. He said the people of the state want to know how three different electoral rosters can be issued within three days, each with a different reservation structure.

“One day a roster is issued, the next day the village population changes and a new roster appears, and on the third day yet another roster—this is not a democratic process, but a deliberate attempt at electoral fraud,” Dr. Bindal alleged. He said all this is being done only to influence Panchayati Raj and municipal elections, and now public trust has completely collapsed. “Today the situation is such that people don’t even believe the roster issued today will remain the same after 5 or 10 days,” he said.

Dr. Bindal attacked the policies of the Congress government, saying that people from Chamba to Bharmour and Kinnaur are protesting on the streets because the government has completely disrupted public life. He said the Congress government first imposed a VAT of ₹10.40 on diesel, burdening the public with thousands of crores, and now is preparing to levy a cess of ₹5 per litre. “This will directly impact transport, inflation, and daily essentials—it is a direct blow to people’s pockets,” he said.

Dr. Bindal added that steep hikes in cement prices, stamp duty, HRTC fares, water and electricity bills, and ration depot costs have broken the backbone of the common man. “Electricity bills are shocking people, water has become expensive, ration has become costly—everywhere there is only inflation,” he said. He also criticized the entry tax, saying it has tarnished Himachal Pradesh’s image in neighboring states and subjected its people to humiliation. “Entry tax has damaged Himachal’s reputation—this is a glaring example of the government’s policy failure,” he said.

Finally, Dr. Bindal said the Congress government in the state has completely failed, and the people have now resolved to uproot it. “Now the people are on the streets—this is not BJP’s fight, but the people’s fight, and this anti-people government will be removed at all costs,” he concluded.
