Chandigarh, April 12
Haryana Congress President Rao Narender Singh made a surprise visit to Samalkha Grain Mandi and inspected the prevailing disorder and the hardships faced by farmers. He directly interacted with the farmers, listened to their problems, and demanded immediate resolution from the administration.
Singh said that farmers in Samalkha Mandi are facing severe difficulties. Issues such as shortage of gunny bags (bardana), grain lying open in the rain, irregular weighing machines, and chaos during loading and unloading are troubling the farmers. He stated, “Farmers bring the produce of their hard labour to the mandi, but they are not being provided proper facilities here. This misery is beyond tolerance.”
The Haryana Congress President held detailed discussions with the farmers present in the mandi and also took their suggestions. Farmers informed him that auction of grain has been delayed for many days and they are not getting fair prices. Taking the issue seriously, Singh said that he would take this matter to the higher authorities and take every possible step in the interest of the farmers. He demanded from the administration that gunny bags be made available immediately in the mandi, sheds should be arranged, and the weighing process should be made transparent so that farmers do not face any kind of trouble.
Singh also strongly raised the issue of compensation for damaged crops. He said that unseasonal rains have caused heavy damage to farmers’ crops and they are facing severe financial distress. Therefore, the government should immediately conduct a special girdawari (crop damage survey) and pay adequate compensation.
Singh’s visit is being seen as a step that strengthens the pro-farmer image of the Congress party. He gave a clear message that the Congress party stands firmly with the farmers and will continue to make efforts to resolve all their problems.
