Ludhiana, April 19
Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today visited various grain markets in Jagraon and Mullanpur Dakha, to have on the spot assessment of the procurement process going on there. Warring interacted with the farmers and also the officials involved in the procurement process.
During his interaction with the farmers, they told him that initially they had difficulties in selling off their produce due to several restrictions which have since been relaxed by the central government.
In an informal interaction with reporters in the grain market, the PCC president said that he had come to meet the farmers as their representative in the parliament. Warring is also the local MP.
Warring said that initially the central government had remained very strict about various specifications. He said he had also raised the matter with the central government officials and mentioned the unseasonal rains.
Warring said he felt happy that many farmers told him that they still remember the Congress regime when they did not need to wait for even 24 hours to receive their payment for their produce.
Talking to the officials deputed in the mandi for procurement, he asked them to remain sympathetic towards farmers. They should act as facilitators to ensure smooth purchase of the wheat, he told the officials while seeking their cooperation and support for smooth and timely procurement.
