Chandigarh, June 3

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today said that the announcement of Rs 1000 monthly cash assistance for women in Punjab by the Aam Aadmi Party government was too little and too late. “It is far too little, far too less and far too late”, he remarked in a statement here today.

The PPCC president said that the AAP government had actually cheated the women of Punjab by getting their votes with a promise of monthly cash assistance of Rs 1000 each. He said, the AAP has now announced it at the fag end of its term. “Women who should have got Rs 60,000 in five years, will now get just Rs 6000 in six months of the AAP’s remaining term”, he noted while remarking, “this is shameless cheating that you promised Rs 60,000 but are now giving them Rs 6000 only”.

Warring said that the Congress will hold protests against the AAP government for cheating women of Rs 54,000 each. He said that if the AAP was really sincere about fulfilling its promise to women, it should pay the arrears of Rs 54,000 to every woman of the state. He said that once the Congress government is formed after the 2027 elections, it will ensure that every welfare scheme including the cash assistance is paid from day one.

Warring quoted the examples of the Congress governments in Karnataka and Telangana where cash assistance was paid to women from the first year of the government formation and is deposited directly in their bank accounts every month.
