Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has lashed out at Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for once again indulging in a publicity gimmick on reimbursement of increased school fees to parents for the last three sessions, even though he was silent on increase in fee by private Universities and colleges because they were filling coffers of the ruling party.

In a statement issued here today, Students Organisation of India (SOI) President Ranbir Singh Dhillon said, “We welcome the decision of the Chief Minister to reimburse the increased fee in schools to parents. He said however at the same time the chief minister should tell why the decision had not been implemented in case of private Universities and Colleges who were charges hefty fee from students. “There is no limit on increasing the fee structure of these institutions”.

The SOI leader said that this was the case because owners of these private Universities and Colleges were filling the coffers of the ruling party and providing funds for it to spread its wings in different parts of the country. He also asked the CM to tell whether his government would reimburse fee collected from MBBS students of Government Medical Colleges of the state who are now being charged above Rs. 10 lakh fees which was only Rs. 4 lakh during the SAD government led by former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. He said that this steep hike in fee by the AAP government had hit the students of MBBS the most. “The chief minister should tell how this fee would be reimbursed to them”, he added.

Dhillon said the announcement of fee imbursement by schools by Bhagwant Mann was nothing but another drama enacted to distract the public from failures of the government including complete collapse of law and order and failure to fulfil promises made to the people on the eve of 2022 assembly elections.
