Ludhiana, June 5

On the occasion of World Environment Day, today DMC&H, Ludhiana, in collaboration with the District Administration, Ludhiana, organized a plantation drive at Village Ajnod, Ludhiana. This plantation initiative is part of an ongoing effort with a target of planting 10,000 saplings on this land, and the drive will continue in the coming days.

The plantation drive is part of a joint environmental initiative of DMC&H and the District Administration, Ludhiana, with an ambitious target of planting 10 lakh trees across the district. Around 80 participants, including medical administrators, faculty members, doctors, staff members, and district administration officials, participated in the event.

Among those present were Dr. Narinder, ADC (RD); Jeevan Deep, EGSDTO (Employment Generation Skill Development and Training Officer); Ambar Bandopadhyay, CGO (Chief Growth Officer); Pavneet Singh, Project Coordinator; and Shweta, Governance Associate, along with representatives from DMC&H and the district administration.

Speaking on the occasion, Bipin Gupta, Secretary DMC&H Managing Society said, “Planting trees is an investment in our future. On World Environment Day, we must all work together to protect the environment and make our surroundings greener and healthier. The target of planting 10 lakh trees is a significant step towards creating a sustainable future for coming generations.”

Further Gupta said that, trees play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance, improving air quality, conserving water, and combating the adverse effects of climate change. Every sapling planted today will contribute to a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable tomorrow. “It is our collective responsibility to nurture nature and encourage community participation in environmental conservation efforts. Through such initiatives, we can inspire future generations to adopt eco-friendly practices and create a healthier planet for all” he added.

DMC&H had started the “Save the Planet” initiative on June 5 last year with the aim of promoting tree plantation and environmental conservation. Encouraged by the success of the initiative, the District Administration, Ludhiana, later joined the campaign to expand its reach and impact. Together, DMC&H and the District Administration are now working towards the ambitious target of planting 10 lakh trees across the district.

To support the plantation campaign, land near canals and other water sources has already been identified where more trees will be planted in the coming months.

The Department of Microbiology, DMC&H, organized various student activities, including poster making, slogan writing, rangoli, role play, debate, and declamation competitions on environmental themes for MBBS 2024 and B.Sc. Allied Healthcare students. The events aimed to promote environmental awareness, and prizes were awarded to the winners.
