Chandigarh, July 31
The Sirsa MP, Former Union Minister, Congress General Secretary and Congress Working Committee (CWC) Member Kumari Selja alleged that corruption had become synonymous with the BJP government, citing the alleged ₹17.03-crore irregularities in the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Housing Renovation Scheme in Ambala as evidence of administrative failure.
In a statement, Selja described the alleged scam as a serious matter, claiming that even welfare schemes meant for the poor, Dalits and other marginalised sections had not remained untouched by corruption. She alleged that while the government projected an image of good governance, irregularities continued to surface in the implementation of public welfare programmes.
Selja claimed that several schemes launched by previous Congress governments had been renamed by the BJP, but transparency and accountability in their implementation had not been ensured. Referring to the Ambala case, she alleged that funds meant for economically weaker beneficiaries had been compromised due to the involvement of middlemen and a corrupt administrative system.
The Congress leader also criticised the government’s urban development initiatives, alleging that despite significant expenditure under the Smart Cities Mission, many cities continued to struggle with traffic congestion, waterlogging, damaged roads, poor sanitation and inadequate civic infrastructure.
She further alleged that reports of irregularities had emerged from several sectors affecting farmers, youth, employees and economically weaker sections, raising serious questions about governance and accountability.
Selja demanded a fair and time-bound investigation into the Ambala case and sought strict legal action against any officials, employees, agents or other individuals found responsible. She also called for justice for beneficiaries allegedly affected by the irregularities, adding that the Congress would continue to raise issues concerning public welfare and accountability.
