Dehradun. Chief Electoral Officer Dr. B.V.R.C. Purushottam on Wednesday held a meeting with representatives of recognized national political parties to discuss the SIR process in detail and obtain feedback. During the meeting, political parties were also briefed through a detailed presentation about the ongoing hearings in the notice phase of SIR.
The CEO assured that utmost care is being taken to ensure that no citizen faces inconvenience during the SIR process. He informed that out of 2.4 million notices issued, nearly 1.9 million (77 percent) have already been delivered to voters through BLOs. He further stated that more than 93,000 applications under Form 6, 139,000 under Form 7, and over 40,000 under Form 8 have been received so far. For Form 7, verification is being carried out at the ERO/AERO level, followed by action as per rules.
The CEO explained that during the claims and objections phase, a voter may submit up to five cases of claims and objections. If cases beyond this limit arise in any area, the ERO will conduct proper inquiry and verification as per prescribed provisions. Additionally, booth-level agents of political parties may submit a maximum of 10 forms in a single day, and if they submit 30 forms during the revision period, the ERO will personally carry out due inquiry and verification.
Dr. Purushottam directed all districts that notices with minor discrepancies should be resolved at the BLO level by verifying documents, so that citizens are not unnecessarily troubled. He emphasized that special focus should be given to voters whose mapping has not yet been completed, with hearings conducted at the ERO/AERO level and action taken as per rules.
