AICC general secretary in charge Punjab Bhupesh Bhagel today exhorted upon the Congress’ rank and file to ignore their small differences for the big battle ahead that party is going to fight to redeem Punjab. Addressing a mammoth gathering Baghel said, “During last seven days he had found that people of Punjab were looking forward to the Congress with great hope and expectations and it is the duty of each and every Congressman to come up to the expectations of Punjabis.”

Speaking during the ‘Harr booth, Congress Mazboot’ programme here today, Baghel said that he has been touring across the state and inviting all the Congressmen to contribute in the big battle. He said, last month he had met all the senior leaders and invited them to join the fight. “I am confident that each one of you understands the sensitivity of the situation and each one of you will contribute to the best of your abilities”, he told the party workers.

Underlining the importance of the grassroots and booth level workers, he said, they are the real strength of the party who hold the forte at the time of elections. He said, no matter how popular and how senior a leader may be, he cannot win without a strong support base of the grassroots level supporters. He said, after the Congress completes the district level programmes, the party will launch the constituency level programmes to reach out as many workers as possible. He said, while the elections are due in January/February, these might be advanced to November, saying limited time was left.

Ex-Chairman of the District Planning Board, Nawanshahr Satvir Singh Palli Jhikki said that days of the AAP government are numbered. “Such is the state of the dwindling economy of Punjab that the present government is running on loans. From economy to law & order, rampant drugs menace, healthcare etc – the present government has failed on all fronts,” he added.

Meanwhile, during the press conference, Baghel, while replying to a question said that the party does not have any problem with anyone raising slogans in favour of any of the leaders. However, he added, but when these people raise slogans and leave immediately, their intent becomes clear that they had only come to disrupt the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, the PPCC president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring expressed his gratitude to the people of Punjab who have shown overwhelming response to the ‘Harr booth, Congress Mazboot’ programme. He specially thanked the people of the SBS Nagar district for attending in such large numbers.

The PCC president reiterated his charge that the RSS and the AAP people were continuously trying to disrupt the Congress programmes. He said, they were doing it because they had realized that the Congress was getting huge support. He reiterated that he or the party did not have any problem in workers raising slogans in favour of party leaders.

Thanking the workers for standing by the party against all odds and standing up to the AAP atrocities, he promised them every excess and injustice will be avenged in same measure. He said, the Congress time was coming and the workers who stood for the party and stood up to the AAP government will be duly rewarded.
