Chandigarh, September 12
A three-day programme on “Holistic Health & Integrated Amrita Meditation” was organised from September 9 to 11, 2026, across six government colleges of Chandigarh under the supervision of the Directorate of Higher Education (DHE), Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Youth Empowerment Group of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kerala.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Sapna Nanda, Principal, Government College of Education, Sector 20-D, Chandigarh, and was conducted through the NSS Units of the six participating colleges. The initiative aimed at creating awareness among students and faculty members regarding the importance of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being, while promoting practical approaches to stress management, relaxation, emotional balance, concentration and self-awareness.
The sessions were conducted by Narinder Anand, National Coordinator and Associate Professor and Shweta Anand, Associate Professor and National Coordinator, Youth Empowerment Group, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kerala. Through interactive and experiential sessions, the resource persons engaged students and faculty members in various activities aimed at promoting physical vitality, mental relaxation and emotional well-being.
The sessions included energising, stress-relieving, relaxation and emotional-release exercises, enabling participants to experience simple practices that can be incorporated into their everyday lives. Participants were also introduced to the Integrated Amrita Meditation Technique, which comes from the teachings and guidance of world-renowned humanitarian Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma). The technique aims to promote mental equanimity, reduce anxiety and anger, and improve concentration, awareness and emotional stability.
The programme was organised at Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 11, Chandigarh, under the guidance of Dr. Anita Kushal, Principal; Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11, Chandigarh, under the guidance of Dr. Ramma Arora, Principal; Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 42, Chandigarh, under the guidance of Dr. Beenu Dogra, Principal; Post Graduate Government College, Sector 46, Chandigarh, under the guidance of Dr. Nisha Aggarwal, Principal; Government College of Commerce and Business Administration, Sector 50, Chandigarh, under the guidance of Dr. Sangam Kapoor, Principal; and Government College of Education, Sector 20-D, Chandigarh, under the guidance of Dr. Sapna Nanda, Principal.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members across all six colleges. The participants actively engaged in the interactive activities and meditation practices and gained an understanding of the importance of integrating physical activity, relaxation, meditation and emotional awareness into their daily routines.
The three-day initiative provided an opportunity for students and faculty to reflect on the increasing importance of mental wellness, emotional resilience and stress management in academic and professional life. The experiential nature of the sessions encouraged participants to adopt simple and sustainable practices for maintaining inner balance and overall well-being.
The initiative reflects the commitment of the Directorate of Higher Education, Chandigarh, towards the holistic development of students and faculty by complementing academic growth with initiatives that promote health, mindfulness, emotional well-being and inner harmony.
