In what can only be termed a “brazen scam”, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has unleashed fraudulent four-month electricity bills on lakhs of consumers across Punjab. Shockingly, this isn’t the first time — just months ago, the same manipulation was committed, leaving households in utter lurch. The repeat offence exposes a pattern of deceit and ruthless harassment, pushing ordinary families into chaos while governance collapses into fraud.
Reports pouring in from across Punjab reveal a shocking fraud as lakhs of consumers, who had already cleared their May–June bills, are being slapped again, this time with inflated four-month bills covering May, June, July and August. This shameless “double billing racket” stinks of outright fraud, ruthless harassment and total administrative collapse. Families are being crushed under this billing chaos, while the government remains stone deaf and willfully blind, refusing to move a muscle to end the nightmare.
Many power consumers have exposed how PSPCL is blatantly manipulating the billing process by first issuing two-month bills that rightly qualified for zero charges under its own norms and then shockingly clubbing those with fresh consumption to generate inflated four-month bills. This deliberate clubbing strips consumers of the free unit benefit, inflates usage figures and forces households into harassment.
The bulk of complaints are erupting from Ludhiana, Punjab’s industrial hub. “We are utterly confused as to whether we should pay these blatantly wrong bills or risk disconnection after the due date?” lamented one consumer, preferring anonymity. If this is the plight in a single district, the devastation across Punjab can only be imagined. The affected power consumers have demanded that the AAP government should take immediate action in this regard. “All the four-month bills should be withdrawn and fresh bills without any anomaly should be issued”, demanded majority of the power consumers.
This manipulation is nothing less than a “big scam,” laying bare PSPCL’s brazen betrayal of its own rules and ruthless exploitation of consumers.
Power consumers have demanded that the PSPCL must act without delay — every single “faulty,” “incorrect,” and “four month” bill must be scrapped at once and replaced with corrected fresh bills. Besides a full scale probe, alleging such a massive lapse could never occur without direct instructions from the state government itself.
While as per media reports, the Chief Engineer (Central) Jagdev Singh Hans has expressed ignorance over the matter stating that no such case has come to his knowledge, the PSPCL CMD Gurkiratkirpal Singh said, “He will get the matter checked.”
