Chandigarh, November 6
MY Bharat Chandigarh, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, in association with Global Youth Federation, organised a series of awareness programmes on responsible e-waste management across three educational institutions in Chandigarh as part of BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week 2026 (1–7 November 2026).
The campaign was organised at Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 15; Government Model High School, Daria; and Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 42, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee and Chandigarh Administration, with the support of Karo Sambhav Pvt. Ltd.
The initiative aimed to sensitise students and young people about the growing challenge of electronic waste and encourage them to adopt responsible consumption and sustainable lifestyle practices. During the awareness sessions, students were informed about the increasing generation of e-waste from discarded mobile phones, computers, batteries and other electronic equipment. They were also sensitised about the harmful substances present in electronic waste and the adverse effects of improper disposal on human health, soil, water and the environment.
Special emphasis was placed on the importance of reducing, repairing and reusing electronic products and ensuring that discarded electronic items are handed over only to authorised recyclers and designated collection channels. Students were also made aware of the environmental risks associated with disposing of e-waste along with regular household garbage or in open spaces and drains.
As part of the campaign, students and youth took an environmental pledge to promote responsible e-waste disposal, minimise waste generation, encourage repair and reuse of electronic products, and spread awareness among their families and communities.
The campaign also highlighted the message of “Clean, Green and Safer Diwali”, encouraging students and citizens to celebrate the festival in an environmentally responsible manner by adopting eco-friendly practices and reducing unnecessary waste.
Through this joint initiative, MY Bharat Chandigarh and Global Youth Federation reaffirmed their commitment to engaging young people in environmental protection and sustainable development. The programme highlighted the vital role of students and youth as responsible citizens and change-makers in building a cleaner, greener and more sustainable future.
The initiative reinforced the message that responsible e-waste management is a shared responsibility and that every small action by an individual can make a meaningful difference.
