Dehradun, May 6
Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan reviewed the Education Department at the Secretariat. He directed that all essential basic facilities be made available in every government school across the State.
The Chief Secretary instructed the Education Secretary to establish Book Banks in schools. He said that after passing a class, students should return their books to these banks, which can then be redistributed to students in the next session. Books that are damaged or not returned for any reason, along with new demand, should be printed afresh. This system, he emphasized, would save crores of rupees otherwise spent annually on printing thousands of books.
CS also directed that construction of classrooms and hostels in cluster schools be expedited, with funding ensured through NABARD. Additionally, he instructed that arrangements for electricity, water, and toilets be ensured in all schools. He stressed the need for a permanent solution to toilet cleanliness, directing that a mechanism be prepared for maintaining sanitation in school toilets, with separate funding arranged for this purpose.
The Chief Secretary further instructed that digital libraries be established in schools. He said that digital libraries would provide students with opportunities to read more books and gain knowledge.
On this occasion, Secretary Ravinath Raman and Director of Secondary Education Dr. Mukul Kumar Sati, along with other senior officials, were present.
