Former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab and Member of Parliament Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has strongly condemned the firing incident outside the Amritsar residence of former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Raghbir Singh. He stated that a firing incident outside the residence of a prominent and sensitive religious figure is deeply concerning and highly condemnable. The continuous surge in such incidents in Punjab raises serious questions about the state’s law and order situation, demonstrating that criminals no longer fear the law and ordinary citizens are increasingly worried about their safety.
He emphasized that serious concerns are emerging regarding the safety of religious and social figures alongside ordinary citizens in Punjab. If gunfire can take place outside the home of a respected religious leader, it directly questions the police administration’s efficiency.
Randhawa demanded that the police administration conduct an immediate, impartial, and high-level investigation into the matter, identify the perpetrators, and arrest them as quickly as possible. He stated that any individual or conspiracy behind this incident must be uncovered and strictly dealt with under the law. Maintaining the rule of law in Punjab remains the primary duty of the government and police administration.
Furthermore, he strongly condemned the lathi-charge by the Haryana Police on Sikh protesters peacefully demonstrating last night in Ambala. He noted that the protesters were peacefully demanding the release of two Sikh youths and the registration of a case against the accused. He stated that Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini must break his silence and provide answers regarding this matter. Action should be taken against those who ordered and carried out the lathi-charge, and justice must be delivered to the Sikh youths.
