Five-day workshop concludes in Department of Zoology, PU, Chandigarh

Chandigarh, May 18

The Five-day Advanced Workshop on “Animal Handling, Experimental Model Development, and Neurophysiological & Neurobehavioral Techniques” concluded at the Department of Zoology, Panjab University, Chandigarh under the aegis of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF).

The valedictory session of the five-day workshop was graced by Prof. R.C. Sobti, former Vice Chancellor of Panjab University and BBAU Lucknow, as Chief Guest. Prof. Sobti emphasised the importance of such specialised workshops in equipping researchers with modern methodologies essential for animal research.

Prof. Sobti and Dr. Ravinder Kumar, Organising Chairperson, felicitated all resource persons and participants, formally concluding the workshop.

During the workshop, Dr. Jyoti Prakash, Central University of Punjab, discussed the neuro-anatomy of the rat, histology of neuron-glial cells, neuroplasticity and nerve cell visualization which followed the demonstration on anatomy of the rat brain, brain sectioning by cryostat microtome and immunohisto chemistry.

Dr. Pradeep Punnakkal, from PGI, also delivered a lecture on advanced techniques in neurobiology and demonstrated patch clamp technique.

On the last day of the workshop, Prof. Anil Kumar and Dr. Sangeeta Sah from UIPS, Panjab University delivered lectures and demonstrated stereotaxic surgery for developing animal model of Alzheimer’s and neuro-behavioral assessment in various neurological disorders.
