Chandigarh, May 3

The MP from Sirsa, Former Union Minister, General Secretary of All Indian National Congress and CWC member, Kumari Selja has expressed deep concern over the worsening power crisis in Haryana, raising several key questions to the state government. She said that with the onset of summer, prolonged power cuts have already begun in several parts of the state, affecting common citizens, farmers, and industries alike.

Selja questioned why timely corrective measures were not taken despite the government being aware of issues such as overloaded transformers and dilapidated power lines. She also asked whether the government has a concrete plan to meet the rising electricity demand in the coming months or if the state is heading towards a deeper crisis. Highlighting the ground situation, she said rural areas are facing 6 to 10 hours of outages, while urban areas are also experiencing several hours of unscheduled power cuts, making life difficult for residents. The situation, she added, is not only inconvenient but is also severely impacting irrigation for farmers and operations of small industries.

Selja urged the government to take immediate steps to strengthen the power infrastructure, replace faulty transformers, and repair damaged lines to provide relief to the public. She stressed that mere announcements are not enough and tangible improvements on the ground are essential. She concluded by saying that ignoring public grievances is unacceptable for any government, and failure to address the issue promptly will invite public accountability.
