Chandigarh, May 1
The MP from Sirsa, Former Union Minister, CWC Member and General Secretary of All India Congress Committee, Kumari Selja has expressed concern over rising inflation, blaming the Centre’s policies for increasing hardships faced by the common people. She urged the Government of India to take immediate and effective measures to control inflation and provide relief to the public, particularly the poor and working class.
Selja said the recent hike in commercial LPG cylinder prices to ₹993, along with a ₹261 increase in the price of 5-kg cylinders, has placed an additional financial burden on common citizens, small businesses, and labourers. She noted that rising LPG prices impact not just household kitchens but also lead to an increase in the cost of goods and services, thereby widening the scope of inflation. Alleging that the Centre is gradually implementing policies that are making life more difficult for ordinary citizens, Selja said the continued rise in prices after elections indicates that political interests are being prioritised over public welfare. She particularly highlighted that the hike in the price of smaller cylinders is a major setback for labourers and low-income groups already struggling with rising costs of living.
Selja reiterated her demand for immediate steps to curb inflation and provide relief to vulnerable sections. She added that the Congress had earlier warned that prices would rise sharply after elections, and the current situation reflects that concern. Calling the LPG price hike a gift by the BJP government on International Workers’ Day, she termed it unjust towards labourers and economically weaker sections.
