Chandigarh, April 17
BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh today hailed the decision of the Modi government to stand by the farmers of Punjab once again by granting relaxations in wheat procurement.
Chugh said the request for relaxation, submitted on April 9, 2026, in the wake of untimely rainfall, was acted upon with exceptional urgency. “Assessment teams were deputed across all districts on April 10, and based on their inputs, the Centre has approved relaxations for wheat procurement under RMS 2026–27 in all districts of Punjab and the Union Territory of Chandigarh,” he said.
Describing the move as “timely and farmer-centric,” Chugh said it would significantly ease the burden on farmers and prevent distress sale of wheat. “This decision ensures that farmers get fair value for their produce despite adverse weather conditions,” he added.
Chugh said the relaxations, effective from the commencement of RMS 2026–27, demonstrate the Modi government’s sensitivity and responsiveness to ground realities.
Chugh reiterated that the Centre stands firmly with farmers and will continue to take all necessary steps to safeguard their interests.
