The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today condemned the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for trying to prevent the family and supporters of senior leader Vardev Singh Mann from contesting the Zila Parishad elections by nominating them in a false case.
Addressing a press conference here, the party’s Legal Cell chief Arshdeep Singh Kler said the Punjab Police was now claiming that a wrong habeas corpus writ had been filed in the high court which had shown the recovery of Vardev Mann’s personal assistant – Manish in a police station in Jalalabad six months back. He said even though Manish was recovered by the Warrant Officer of the Punjab and Haryana high court while in illegal custody, the Punjab Police was now claiming that Manish had been brought to the police station in the Warrant Officer’s vehicle.
Kler said this blatantly false FIR was being used to prevent the family of Vardev Mann from contesting the Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections. He said among those nominated in the false FIR included Vardev Mann, the latter’s brothers Nardev Mann and Gursewak Mann, relative Harman, zila parishad candidate Harbhinder Singh and PA Manish. “It is shocking that this new case has been registered without informing the high court and shows that the Punjab Police does not have any regard for the decisions of the court”.
Kler said even the earlier case registered against Vardev Mann and his brother Nardev which had necessitated filing of the habeas corpus in court and the recovery of Manish, was false. “The Mann brothers were accused of entering the block development officer’s room in Jalalabad and indulging in firing. The government could not produce any CCTV footage of this incident and even the forensic laboratory had reported that no licensed weapon of the Mann brothers had been used in this purported incident”.
Asserting that all these false cases were being filed at the instance of AAP Jalalabad legislator Goldy Kamboj, the SAD leader urged police officers not to obey the illegal dictates of AAP leaders. He said just in the case of Kanchanpreet Kaur, the SAD would take up the false case registered against the Mann brothers as well as their relatives and the party’s Zila Parishad candidate in the high court. “We are hopeful of securing justice in this case also”, he added.
