Chandigarh, August 13
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today demanded a high level High court monitored probe into the cowardly attack on party president Sukhbir Singh Badal at a Gurudwara in Nanded covering both the intelligence and security failures as well as the conspiracy behind the heinous act.
Addressing a press conference here, senior SAD leaders Balwinder Singh Bhundar, Dr Daljit Singh Cheema and Arshdeep Singh Kler said “it is now clear that whenever the SAD is in an upward swing inimical forces indulge in dastardly attacks to make the Panth leaderless”.
Asserting that this was not the first time this had happened, the SAD leaders said earlier also Sukhbir Badal had been attacked in the premises of Sri Darbar Sahib. “Had that incident been probed impartially as demanded by us today’s incident would have been averted”. The leaders demanded that any probe investigating today’s incident should also include the Amritsar attack as the template as well as the intentions were the same. “To eliminate Sukhbir Singh Badal and weaken the SAD”.
Dr Cheema also took on the Aam Aadmi Party as well as Pradesh Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring for trying to politicise the dastardly attack by linking it with the Bargari sacrilege and Behbal Kalan police firing incident. “They, including Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan, have written irresponsible tweets which indicate they stand with the aggressor rather than the victim”. Asserting that the AAP government had done the same when Mr Badal faced a murderous attack at the Sri Darbar Sahib, Dr Cheema said “now again AAP is trying to instigate people and spoil the atmosphere of the State”. The Akali leader said Raja Warring on his part was acting like a stooge of the AAP government even as he appealed to Punjabis to beware of such elements who were playing with fire. “We on our party have always stood for peace and communal harmony and will continue to do so”, Dr Cheema added.
The SAD leaders also thanked Waheguru, for protecting his devotee. “All this is the result of nishkaam sewa”, adding “jiska sahib dadah hove usnu maar na saake koi.”
