Chandigarh, January 10
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today held massive protests demanding registration of a case against Delhi Leader of Opposition Atishi Marlena and cancellation of her membership of the Delhi Vidhan Sabha for making derogatory references against the Sikh Sahiban in the State assembly. The protests, which were staged at the district level, received a huge response across the State. Besides burning effigies of Atishi Marlena, speakers at the dharna sites also demanded the immediate arrest of the former chief minister as well as all others behind this conspiracy.
SAD delegations also submitted representations to deputy commissioners in all districts in which they urged the Punjab Governor and the Delhi Vidhan Sabha Speaker to take action against Atishi Marlena. The memorandum made it clear that Atishi had knowingly passed derogatory remarks against the Guru Sahiban during a special discussion in the Vidhan Sabha on the supreme sacrifice made by Guru Tegh Bahadur to protect religious freedom.
The memorandum further read that the remarks were part of the official record of the Delhi assembly and that this was a fit case for registration of an immediate case against the AAP leader for hurting Sikh sentiments as well as her subsequent arrest. The memorandum also pointed out that the video recording of Atishi passing insulting remarks against the Guru Sahiban was also circulating in the social media which was a cause for anguish amongst Sikh community members.
The memorandum also pointed out that recently a number of disparaging videos against Sikh Gurus sahiban, Sikh leaders and Sikh institutions were circulating in the social media. It said the videos were creating tensions in the society and could spoil the atmosphere of the State. It said the very fact that the aim of the videos was to defame Sikh institutions had alarmed the ‘sangat’. The memorandum demanded all these clips should be removed from social media and appropriate cases should be registered against the culprits under cyber crime laws.
