Chandigarh, August 8
Member of Parliament from Chandigarh, former Union Minister and Senior National Spokesperson of the Indian National Congress, today inaugurated a park in Sector-63, Chandigarh that was developed out of his MPLAD funds. Speaking on the occasion, Tewari said that this park has been developed in a manner so that it becomes an urban sath (traditional gathering place)—so that senior citizens and elderly people can sit together, they can converse with each other, they can indulge in certain recreations which would which would add to their health and longevity.
Tewari said that in addition to a huge demographic bulge, India also has a very rapidly aging population and so therefore, we need to provide a holistic legal architecture in order to provide for the health and mental well-being of our senior citizens and super senior citizens, who have contributed their entire life to the betterment of their families and participated in the development of this nation.
Tewari appealed to the government that an appropriate legal architecture be put in place, whereby the physical and mental well-being of our elderly citizens is taken care of, both by the Central and the State Governments. Tewari interacted with the assembled residents and talked to them about their well-being and their thoughts for the betterment of Chandigarh and for the development of our nation.
