Patiala, May 10

The PSEB Engineers’ Association has urged the Chief Minister to take immediate action against the unauthorized interaction conducted by the Power Minister and CMD PSPCL with applicants for the post of Director Generation on May 8. The Association stated that this move violates established selection norms.

Ajaypal Singh Atwal, General Secretary, in a letter to the Chief Minister, requested that the amendments made to the qualifications and eligibility criteria for the posts of CMDs/Directors—issued in violation of the Tripartite Agreement—be withdrawn forthwith.

More than two dozen Chief Engineers and Engineers-in-Chief had applied for the post of Director Generation. Out of these, seven were shortlisted for interaction/interview by the Power Minister. As per norms, only the duly constituted Selection Committee—comprising the Chief Secretary, Secretary Power, and a power sector expert from the central government—is authorized to recommend names for appointment to the post.

The Association emphasized that the interaction/interview by the Power Minister is an attempt to exert undue influence upon the authorized Selection Committee and demanded that such unauthorized processes be stopped immediately.

It was further highlighted that PSPCL undertakes power purchases worth approximately ₹20,000 crores per annum, yet the engineers who were interacted with had no practical ground experience in thermal generation and power purchase.
