UT Chandigarh Administrator approves the construction of new Anganwadi-cum-Crèche building

Chandigarh, August 5

Gulab Chand Kataria, Govenrnor Punjab & Administrator UT Chandigarh has approved the construction of a new Anganwadi-cum-Crèche building at a one-room tenement site in Dhanas (Site-I), Chandigarh, at an estimated cost of ₹1.49 crore (Rupees One Crore Forty-Nine Lacs Only).

At present, under the ages of Department of Social Welfare, Women and Child Development, UT Chandigarh Administration, 450 Anganwadi Centres are functional across the Union Territory of Chandigarh, of which 41 Centres are operational in Dhanas. These centres provide essential services under the Anganwadi Services Scheme and Poshan Abhiyaan, including supplementary nutrition, pre-school education, growth monitoring, health check-ups, immunization support, nutrition and health education, and referral services for children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers.

With the objective of strengthening service delivery and maximizing benefits for beneficiaries, the Administration has taken the initiative to construct a modern Anganwadi-cum-Crèche building in Dhanas. The proposed facility will provide a safe, child-friendly, and well-equipped environment for early childhood care and education while also supporting working mothers through quality day-care services under the Government’s child welfare initiatives.

The project reflects the Chandigarh Administration’s continued commitment to enhancing social infrastructure and ensuring improved access to integrated child development services for the residents of Dhanas. The construction will be undertaken in accordance with all applicable Government of India guidelines, financial rules, and prescribed technical standards.
