Chandigarh, April 23

Punjab Congress president Amaninder Singh Raja Warring today criticised the Punjab government for the unprecedented marathon power cuts lasting for as long as 10-12 hours.

This, he pointed out was being done when the mercury has touched 40 degree C and state is reeling under unprecedented and an unexpected heat wave.

The PCC president questioned the claims of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) that the power cuts were “planned” and had been necessitated for the maintenance reasons.

Warring asked why the PSPCL did not do it during the winter season as is the standard practice as during winters the demand is low and people are not subjected to any suffering due to power outage.

Warring noted that this was yet another dubious distinction the Aam Aadmi Party had achieved to push the power surplus Punjab to a power deficit state.

Warring disclosed that the industry across the state was suffering an average loss of Rs 500 crores a day. Besides, people were subjected to suffer the severe heat wave without electricity.

The PCC President pointed out the power outages were affected in the industrial cities of Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar, as also in Patiala and Bathinda also.

Warring apprehended that the situation may worsen further once the paddy transplantation begins and there will be extra load. The sad part is that the AAP government has been caught completely unawares, he added.
