Chandigarh/Mohali, October 7
Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon launched a scathing attack on the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government, saying the “pot of corruption” of AAP government finally overflowed. He said, the government’s days in power are numbered.
Dhillon led a BJP protest in Mohali against alleged corruption in the state government. During the demonstration, BJP workers smashed a symbolic pot representing corruption and burnt an effigy of the AAP government, raising slogans against the Mann government. The protest was attended by state vice-president Ranjit Singh Gill, district president Sanjeev Vishisht, Anuj Khosla, Gurdarshan Singh Saini, NK Verma, Sanjeev Khanna and Sukhwinder Singh Goldy, besides a large number of BJP leaders and workers.
Addressing the gathering, Dhillon said the AAP government had spent four-and-a-half years claiming to be honest and corruption-free, but allegations of corruption and misuse of public money are now surfacing one after another.
“The people of Punjab are watching everything. They will give this government an answer at the right time,” Dhillon said. Taking aim at the government over the ongoing corruption-related proceedings, Dhillon alleged that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had written to the Punjab Police several times seeking action in such cases, but the state government failed to conduct a proper probe. The matter eventually reached the Punjab and Haryana High Court, following which the CBI is probing the allegations on the directions of the court, he said.
Dhillon accused the AAP government of becoming rattled as the investigation progressed. He said the government should have no reason to fear the probe if it had nothing to hide. “If the AAP government has done nothing wrong, let it face the investigation and prove its transparency before the people of Punjab,” he said. The BJP state president further alleged that Punjabis were now fed up with the government’s “false promises” and alleged corruption. He claimed that the people would soon show the AAP government the door.
