Early results from the 2026 Assembly elections are redrawing the political landscape across five states. In Tamil Nadu, Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has delivered a shockwave, racing past a hundred seats and emerging as the single largest party, while the DMK and AIADMK trail far behind. Puducherry has reaffirmed its trust in the NDA, with Chief Minister N. Rangasamy’s alliance comfortably crossing the majority mark, though TVK has made a symbolic debut with two seats. Assam continues to consolidate the BJP’s dominance, as the NDA surges past the halfway mark and looks set for a third straight term under Himanta Biswa Sarma, while the Congress-led opposition struggles to gain traction. Kerala has witnessed a dramatic reversal, with the Congress-led UDF sweeping past the majority mark with more than a hundred seats, ending the Left Democratic Front’s decade-long rule, and giving the BJP its first-ever foothold in the state with three seats.
The most seismic shift, however, is unfolding in West Bengal, where early trends show the BJP breaching the halfway mark with leads in nearly two hundred constituencies, while Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress trails at under ninety. For a state that long resisted saffron politics, the surge is historic, amplified by the controversy over the Election Commission’s voter roll revision that scrubbed nearly 89 lakh names.
Together, these results sketch a picture of churn and realignment: a new force rising in Tamil Nadu, the BJP entrenching itself in Assam, Puducherry, and Bengal, and the Congress staging a comeback in Kerala. None of these outcomes are yet officially certified, but the trends tonight point to a rebalanced southern and eastern political map, with fresh mandates and shifting loyalties setting the stage for a new chapter in Indian politics.
