The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received a major boost when a large number of young people joined the party at an event held in Mullanpur, Mohali, inspired by Mohit Jand. The new entrants were formally welcomed into the BJP by Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon.
Welcoming everyone into the party, State President Kewal Singh Dhillon said that by joining the BJP for the bright and prosperous future of Punjab, the youth had chosen the right path. He said that young people are the greatest strength of any country or state. “There is no shortage of enthusiasm and hard work among the youth of Punjab, but at present, there is an urgent need to channel this energy in the right direction,” he said.
Launching a sharp attack on the ruling Aam Aadmi Party government, Dhillon said that the AAP had claimed it would eradicate drugs within three months, but the situation today is before everyone. “Unemployment and drugs have broken the backbone of our youth, and every young person is deeply concerned about their future. If Punjab is to be saved from this quagmire of drugs, the only solution is a Bharatiya Janata Party government,” he said.
Dhillon said the present government has neither a clear policy for government jobs nor one for promoting employment in the private sector. “The government’s entire focus is on publicity. Industries are leaving Punjab, whereas employment can only be generated through industrial growth,” he said. Citing neighbouring Haryana as an example, he said that Gurugram alone is driving economic activity and providing employment to lakhs of young people.
Dhillon also cornered the government over the deteriorating law-and-order situation, gangsterism and important agricultural issues such as Minimum Support Price (MSP). He said the government’s claims of an “education revolution” and “health revolution” had completely failed. As many as 31,000 teacher posts are vacant in schools and colleges, while there is a shortage of 2,400 professors. Similarly, the promise to establish 16 medical colleges remains unfulfilled. He further said that Punjab’s debt has risen from ₹2.82 lakh crore to around ₹4.5 lakh crore.
He strongly asserted that only a BJP “Double-Engine” government can pull Punjab out of this crisis. He said the role of the youth would be most important in the upcoming Assembly elections. “The BJP’s objective is not merely to win elections, but to build a strong, prosperous, drug-free and employment-oriented Punjab,” he said.
Assuring the newly inducted youth that the party would fully respect their hard work and capabilities, Dhillon urged them to come forward, take responsibility and play a strong role in the politics of Punjab.
Rajya Sabha MP Satnam Singh Sandhu, Punjab BJP Vice Presidents Subhash Sharma and Ranjit Singh Gill, senior leader Fateh Jung Singh Bajwa, Mohali District President Sanjeev Vashisht, N.K. Verma and a large number of party leaders and workers were also present on the occasion.
