Mohali/Chandigarh, October 29
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received a significant boost as Chaudhary Shyam Lal Gujjar, district president of the Shiromani Akali Dal’s Backward Classes (BC) Wing in Mohali, joined the party along with hundreds of supporters. The induction was facilitated by BJP Punjab Vice President Ranjit Singh Gill.
At a programme held in Guri village in the Kharar Assembly constituency, Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon welcomed Gujjar and his supporters into the party, assuring them of due respect and recognition within the organisation. BJP Punjab Vice President Ranjit Singh Gill, District President Sanjeev Vashisht, Haryana government chairman Chaudhary Om Prakash, and several other party leaders and workers were present on the occasion.
Dhillon said Chaudhary Shyam Lal Gujjar and his supporters had made a positive decision in the larger interest of Punjab. He said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the BJP was committed to bringing every section of society together under the guiding principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas.” He added that people from diverse communities were joining the party because of its commitment to inclusive development.
Welcoming the growing support from the Gujjar community, Dhillon said the community was known for its hard work and contribution to society and had played an important role in Punjab’s progress. He added that Gujjar’s induction, along with that of his supporters, would further strengthen the BJP’s organisational presence in the state.
The Punjab BJP president described the situation in the state as deeply concerning, citing drug abuse, gangsterism, extortion, murders, deteriorating law and order, rising debt and financial distress as major challenges facing Punjab. He alleged that those raising their voices against drugs were being silenced and that people exposing the government’s failures were facing harassment. Dhillon said incidents of shootings and murders continued to raise serious concerns across Punjab. Referring to the cases involving Parminder Singh Jhota of Mansa and Daljit Jeetu of Bhamme Kalan village, he alleged that the affected families were facing further harassment instead of receiving justice. He said protecting Punjab’s younger generation had become an urgent priority. If the state’s children could not live in safety, he argued, other amenities and facilities would have little meaning. He stressed that eliminating drugs must be a top priority.
Dhillon said the BJP had pledged to rid Punjab of drugs through its Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra. He added that the party was committed to working alongside the Centre’s initiatives towards eliminating drugs by December 31, 2029. He said Punjab needed a strong and honest government capable of addressing the state’s pressing challenges. Citing the BJP’s record on governance and development, Dhillon asserted that the party could offer solutions to Punjab’s problems. He also urged party workers to strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level and ensure that the BJP’s policies and programmes reached every section of society.
