Shimla, April 22
BJP state president Dr. Rajeev Bindal, addressing a press conference, launched a sharp attack on the Congress party and the state government, saying that the developments in Parliament regarding the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam have completely exposed Congress’s “anti-women” mindset. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a special session of Parliament to make a historic effort to give women participation in power, but Congress and its allies crushed this opportunity.
Dr. Bindal said that in the past 10–12 years, the Modi government has taken numerous concrete steps for the economic, social, and educational empowerment of women, and now the time had come to give them participation in policy-making. “This was the moment when 50 percent of the country’s population was to be handed the keys to power, but Congress chose to stab 700 million sisters in the back,” he said. He alleged that Congress kept the Women’s Reservation issue hanging and misleading for 40 years, and when the time came to implement it, they stood as a wall against it.
“Celebrating and distributing sweets after the Bill fell is proof that Congress is against women’s rights,” Bindal said. He also targeted Congress leaders in Himachal Pradesh, saying they are not taking a clear stand on the issue and are giving evasive statements. “This is open support against women’s rights, and Himachal’s mothers and sisters will answer this by taking to the streets,” he said.
Dr. Bindal announced that on April 23, a “Jan Aakrosh Padyatra” will be held in Shimla, in which thousands of women will protest against Congress. “This is not just a protest, but a decisive battle for women’s honour and rights,” he said.
