Chandigarh, October 7
A crucial meeting of the constituent parties of the INDIA alliance was held today at the Chandigarh headquarters of the Haryana Congress. The meeting was held under the guidance of Haryana Congress in-charge Sanjay Dutt and was jointly chaired by Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee President Rao Narender Singh and Leader of Opposition Chaudhary Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
The meeting witnessed detailed discussions on serious issues concerning the protection of democracy and voting rights in the country. In particular, extensive deliberations were held on the Congress’s nationwide ‘Vote Bachao–Desh Bachao’ (Save the Vote–Save the Country) campaign and ‘Loktantra Bachao Saptah’ (Save Democracy Week).
It was unanimously decided that all constituent parties of the INDIA alliance will come together across Haryana to turn ‘Loktantra Bachao Saptah’ and the ‘Vote Bachao–Desh Bachao’ campaign into a strong mass movement. All alliance partners will jointly organise protests across the state against the policies of the government and reach out to the people to protect their democratic rights.
The leaders said that just as the constituent parties of the INDIA alliance, under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi in Delhi, have unitedly raised their voice against the government to protect democracy, the Constitution and voting rights, the same spirit of unity and struggle will now be taken to every village, town and city of Haryana.
The leaders said that democracy is not limited merely to conducting elections; fairness, transparency and protection of every citizen’s right to vote are the foundation of a democratic system. Any irregularity or lack of transparency, from electoral rolls to the electoral process, will be jointly raised before the people by the opposition parties.
It was also decided that all constituent parties of the INDIA alliance will organise joint programmes in every district and Assembly constituency through mutual coordination. Workers of all alliance partners will be mobilised to broaden the struggle for the protection of democracy and the Constitution.
The leaders said that today the country needs not merely opposition unity, but people’s unity for the protection of democracy. The objective of the INDIA alliance is not the struggle of any one political party, but the protection of the country’s democratic values, the Constitution and the people’s right to vote.
Representatives of the constituent parties of the INDIA alliance present at the meeting included Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) State President Ram Avtar Yadav, Communist Party of India (Marxist) State Secretary Prem Chand, Communist Party of India State Secretary Vinod Gharoli, Communist Party of India (Marxist) State Secretary Dariya Singh Kashyap among other leaders.
All the leaders unanimously resolved that the ‘Vote Bachao–Desh Bachao’ campaign will be transformed into a decisive mass movement across Haryana and that the INDIA alliance will reach out to the people with full strength to protect democracy, the Constitution and the right to vote.
