The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received a significant political boost in Malerkotla district today as senior Akali leader, former State Information Commissioner, and former Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) member Ajit Singh Chandurayan formally joined the party along with a large group of associates.

At a joining ceremony held at the Punjab BJP headquarters in Chandigarh, State President Kewal Singh Dhillon welcomed Chandurayan and his supporters into the party fold by handing over primary membership slips. Along with Chandurayan, around 60 influential grassroots figures from Malerkotla district—including sitting and former sarpanches, nambardars and block-level representatives—formally entered the BJP.

Welcoming the new entrants, Kewal Singh Dhillon stated that Chandurayan’s vast administrative and socio-religious experience will significantly galvanize the party’s organizational base across Malerkotla and adjoining regions.”The BJP’s caravan in Punjab is expanding every single day,” Dhillon said. “Eminent personalities, grassroots leaders, and citizens from every section of society are placing their trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inclusive governance and development agenda. The growing influx into our ranks is a testament to the changing political tide in the border state.”

Mounting a sharp offensive against the ruling dispensation, Dhillon remarked that during its four-and-a-half years in power, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government had reversed Punjab’s growth trajectory rather than steering it forward.

“The state has been pushed into a deep morass of rampant drug trade, gang violence, daylight extortions, and complete administrative paralysis. Law and order has collapsed to a point where citizens no longer feel secure even inside their homes. Whether it is traders, farmers, state government employees, or unemployed youth, every section has been pushed to the wall by false promises,” Dhillon added.

Underlining the road ahead, the Punjab BJP President asserted that only a decisive “double-engine government”—with matching development agendas at the Centre and in the state—can restore peace, revitalize industry, create dignified employment for the youth, and lead Punjab back to prosperity.
