Chandigarh, August 15
On the occasion of the 80th Independence Day, Chandigarh MP and former Union Minister Shri Manish Tewari hoisted the National Tricolour at various locations across the city and paid tribute to the supreme sacrifices made by patriots who laid down their lives for India’s freedom.
A Tiranga Padyatra was organised at the EWS Colony in Maloya. Hundreds of residents, carrying the National Flag, participated in the march led by MP Tewari and raised patriotic slogans. Following the march, the Tricolour was hoisted and the supreme sacrifices of the freedom fighters were remembered.
Addressing the gathering, Tewari said that everyone must work in accordance with the values enshrined in the Constitution and contribute collectively towards strengthening the unity and integrity of India.
Meanwhile, residents of MIG Flats, Sector 40, organised an Independence Day programme showcasing patriotism and community unity.
Addressing the gathering, MP Tewari said that there is a need to uphold our constitutional rights and responsibilities and come forward to strengthen the country’s constitutional institutions. He emphasised that the Congress Party has made numerous great sacrifices for India’s freedom and for safeguarding that freedom in the years since independence.
Chandigarh Congress President H.S. Lucky said that the Congress Party remains fully committed to strengthening and preserving communal harmony and brotherhood. He remarked that patriotism runs in MP Tewari’s blood, recalling that his father, Dr. V.N. Tewari, had sacrificed his life for maintaining brotherhood, unity and integrity in the country.
Among others, Raja Hindustani, Wasim Mir, Imran Mansoori, Chandramukhi Sharma, Harbans Singh, and several other dignitaries were also present during the programmes.
